Description
Although improving gender diversity is a strategic priority for many organisations, representation of women remains low at senior levels. According to findings from the Pew Research Center, of the CEOs who lead the 2018 Fortune 500 companies, just 4.8% are women. Earlier this year, our Women on Boards Hong Kong 2018 report revealed that out of a total of 632 directorships on the Hang Send Index, only 13.8% are held by women. Similarly, our Gender Diversity Benchmark for Asia series highlighted the under-representation of women in senior management across key Asian markets, as well as the challenge of the leaking female pipeline. Yet there is a growing body of research that proves gender diversity at senior levels is good for business.
The slow rate of progress suggests huge room for improvement in what businesses are doing to achieve gender parity. This further begs the questions of: why the slow rate of progress? What does it really take to move the needle?
In this forum, we will discuss gender diversity in the workplace from different perspectives, what leading companies are doing to help women advance, and the important role of men in championing women. We also explore interesting research on transnational couples in which men play a non-typical ‘trailing spouse’ role. How do partners learn to balance individual career aspirations with family needs? What are companies doing to support working parents and caregivers?
